According to ESPN's Brett Okamoto, Paulo Costa vs Robert Whittaker has been canceled. Paulo Costa took it upon himself to confirm this information on Twitter.

This is very disappointing information because this was one of the biggest fights of 2023 that we thought was booked. The bigger story here seems that the fight itself seems like it never actually was booked. Costa claimed a while ago that he never signed anything. The "I wasn't bluffing" tweet was referring to that. Costa also tweeted about how he isn't the first fighter to deal with contract issues and listed Ngannou, Suga Sean, and Mark Hunt. Costa says he wants to renegotiate a deal with the UFC before fighting the final fight on this deal. He isn't wrong, this is not the first time the UFC has had to deal with superstars being "unhappy" with their contracts. I wonder what is going to happen next for Both Costa and Whittaker now that their matchup at UFC 284 is in shambles.
